Coffee Cozies

June 20, 2010

I think that’s what they are called. Intended to be a gift for a coworker leaving for another position at another site. I’m going to miss her. She’s what I’d call, “My best friend at work.” So, when next year I have to take a poll, I’m going to have to answer, “No” when asked if I have a best friend at work.

Anyway.

These took no time. I traced a pattern from a coffee sleeve I brought back from the coffee shop. I added snaps, but probably could have just sewn the ends together. I think the pearl snaps look pretty!

Coffee Cozies

Lessons Learned:

  • Pounding the snaps with a hammer causes Miles to scream in fright. In a cute way of course.
  • 2 layers of fabric is enough for the snaps.  The layer of batting was too much.
  • Increase the stitch length when topstitching through layers of fabric and batting.  Which, I think is quilting.

::The Name::

Five Baht Elephant. My mother is from Thailand, where elephants are royal animals. Growing up Mom would tell us to save our pennies, "in case a man came to our door selling elephants." At the time we thought it was the most absurd thing ever. Now I realize it was the Thai version of saving for a rainy day. Lets hope that we can buy an elephant for only five baht!
