December 6 – Make. What was the last thing you made? What materials did you use? Is there something you want to make, but you need to clear some time for it?

Quilt. WIP

How appropriate.

I woke early to get started on today’s prompt AND to upload a pic of the little bit of sewing I did yesterday.  Finally got around to piecing this quilt for my friend’s baby boy.  I had already cut out the pieces, and the next step was to lay it out.

So I cleared off the dining table and started arranging the squares and half squares.  It took a few tries.  Probably should have used more orange and less black.

Of all the fabrics, the green sashing is my favorite.  I like the bright color.  The rich saturation.  I think the little guy will like the bright colors.

Sunday afternoon I got so far as to piece together the entire quilt top.  And prepped the fabric for the backing.  This week I hope to carve some time out to finish it.

::The Name::

Five Baht Elephant. My mother is from Thailand, where elephants are royal animals. Growing up Mom would tell us to save our pennies, "in case a man came to our door selling elephants." At the time we thought it was the most absurd thing ever. Now I realize it was the Thai version of saving for a rainy day. Lets hope that we can buy an elephant for only five baht!
