Boy, Am I Smart or What!

January 20, 2011

Cutting out the fabric pieces for my New Wave Quilt, I realized that there has to be a better, faster way.

I so smart, I stacked the fabric and then sliced around the template.

New Wave Quilt, WIP

Can you sense the sarcasm? When I do things like this, I realize just how novice a quilter I really am. I mean, I’m sure that cutting fabric is basic stuff. Probably taught on Day 1 or something.

Lessons Learned:

  • Using a template
  • Stack fabric
  • My rotary cutter sucks
  • My self-healing mat is warped

Quilting is on my ‘must learn to do that’ list. I can’t wait to see your finished waves 🙂

I’ve only made 2 quilts in my life, both rag quilts. I did stack them – but only because I’m always up for a shortcut.

I’m also anxious to see your project – waves.

Whatever you’re doing, it’s impressive! I like the little peek into a world that is completely foreign to me!

I made a new wave quilt and used an acrylic template from this etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/listing/62264723/new-wave-template

It worked AWESOME. It’s really easy to cut around because it’s the same stiffness and thickness as a regular quilting ruler. It’s sort of too late now, but she does make other templates at well. 🙂

Thanks everyone! I’m not much of a quilter, but I do sew and have since I was little.

I just have to say that I quilt and sew, and cutting the fabric is my least favorite part. You might even say, I hate it! If it weren’t for cutting out the fabric, I would probably still be doing it!:) I can’t wait to see when you’re done. The finished project is always awesome.

::The Name::

Five Baht Elephant. My mother is from Thailand, where elephants are royal animals. Growing up Mom would tell us to save our pennies, "in case a man came to our door selling elephants." At the time we thought it was the most absurd thing ever. Now I realize it was the Thai version of saving for a rainy day. Lets hope that we can buy an elephant for only five baht!
