WIP || New Wave Quilt

January 22, 2011

I’m such a homebody.

JJ ended up going to the Lakers v Nuggets game, inviting me along, but I’m really not a fan of basketball.  He’s been working like a crazy person, and we hadn’t seen each other much this week.  Because of that I debated going.  I told JJ that it’d be a waste of a ticket to use on me; so I sent him off to have fun. I could better spend my time and money elsewhere.  And we agreed to Date Night tonight 🙂

This is what I did Friday night.  Pieced and sewed and pressed and squared and pieced 2 more columns of my New Wave Quilt.

I’m not loving the spoon fabric (which you can’t see in this photo), or the flowery one either so I decided to place those on the top and bottom of the columns.  I got into somewhat of a rhythm, stacking, sewing, pressing, squaring, sewing and pressing again.

Lessons Learned:

  • Dude, this 1/4″ presser foot is amazing.  Best $10 I’ve spent.
  • The actual sewing is such a small part of the process.
  • Pay attention.  I’ve ripped out 2 seams.

    It’s fun to watch this quilt come together. I’m anxious to see the first shot w/the pattern visible.

    Is this your first quilt? You have some wonderful fabric choices in there. And yes, a 1/4″ foot is a quilter’s best friend—along with a good seam ripper. I prefer to call it a seam eraser; much more user friendly. 🙂

    Pretty colors! I don’t do well with sports, although I’d ten times rather go to a game than see sports on tv. I hope you have a fun date night!

::The Name::

Five Baht Elephant. My mother is from Thailand, where elephants are royal animals. Growing up Mom would tell us to save our pennies, "in case a man came to our door selling elephants." At the time we thought it was the most absurd thing ever. Now I realize it was the Thai version of saving for a rainy day. Lets hope that we can buy an elephant for only five baht!
