Argh. This was a weekend full of mistakes. First, a fabric mishap on Saturday and then getting off course during a race on Sunday.
Yup, I totally missed the turn around on Sunday. And I was not the only one either! A few of us were confused and just ran right on by the cones marking the 7 mile turn around. What got me was the girl passing me right before the turn around. I recognized her from the start, and when she kept running so did I.
You know that feeling in your gut when something is just not quite right? Yeah, that feeling started creeping in and just got worse with each step. But really, I wasn’t upset. I decided to just keep going and to turn around when my Garmin hit 3.5 miles. I wasn’t cold. The wind wasn’t blowing. I was feeling relaxed and just enjoyed the run.
When I got back to the start, I saw a few of the other “lost” folks. We joked about how we missed the turn. Explained to the race director what happened. Joked some more.
