Topstitching is a Bee-otch

March 5, 2011

…On this bag anyway.

There was really no easy way to topstitch this thing. I had to push and smush the fabric around to get it through the presser foot.

Looks great though! (The topstitching, I mean)

Seriously though, I did learn a few things.

Lessons Learned:

  • Go slow.  Seriously.
  • To ease the curved bottom, clip the fabric along the curve of one piece.  First pin the ends, then ease the fabric around the curve.  Lots of pins don’t hurt either.
  • Walking foot.

    love the patterns and I can see how that would be a pain to sew 😉

    I can’t sew. At all. I’ve tried and it isn’t pretty. So, I’m very impressed! Looks amazing. Anbd I love the fabric!

::The Name::

Five Baht Elephant. My mother is from Thailand, where elephants are royal animals. Growing up Mom would tell us to save our pennies, "in case a man came to our door selling elephants." At the time we thought it was the most absurd thing ever. Now I realize it was the Thai version of saving for a rainy day. Lets hope that we can buy an elephant for only five baht!
