All done! I managed to finish this up this morning – attaching buttons, tacking down the button fly and general clean up of the garment (sniping threads and pulling out basting stitches).
I tried it on. It fits GREAT, which I’m so very happy about. However, I feel like a waitress in a diner wearing it. Alls I’m missing are some orthopedic white sneakers, support hose and a pencil behind my ear.
Here’s my review of the pattern, linked up to (you guessed it, Pattern Review):
From the pattern:
MISSES’ DRESS AND BELT: Loose-fitting, mid-knee length dress has shawl pleated collar, partial waistline seam, pleats, side slant pockets, princess seams in bodice back, back darts, short sleeves with turn back cuffs, stitched hem facing, right fly front button closure and tie belt.
BB – 8 – 14; I cut a 10 on top and a 12 on bottom. I like that Vogue prints the finished garment measurements on the pattern pieces. Had I went by my actual body measurements, I’d have cut a 14 for the top and an 18 for the bottom resulting in a HUGE dress.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions were well written, and I was able to follow them exactly. I do have a problem with understitching. I have no idea how to do it, and I’ve read books, websites and other references with no success. I think I just need to have someone show me how to do it. Also, I shortened the length where indicated on the skirt front and back, but there was no such indicated place on the button fly pattern piece. i had to re-cut that piece during construction
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Likes: interesting construction, pleats, hem facing, belt. Dislikes: there are a few pivots which are new to me.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I shortened it by 1″. I opted not to do any bust adjustments based on the ease indicated on the pattern piece.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I don’t think I’d sew it again just because I don’t feel my wardrobe needs another one of these dresses. Maybe in a heavier weight for winter? I would recommend this pattern to others. Its a very flattering design.
I love this! I can’t wait to wear it to work. All I need is a cute pair of shoes!
