Gah. This dress. Oh my goodness, this dress is kicking my ass.
Ass! Kicking it! Mine!
I set out last night to fix the pockets. I ripped out the stitches, reassembled, pinned them to the skirt front and back….and promptly sewed them inside out.
Yeah. inside out.
I decided to skip the pockets.
So, then. On to the zipper. As I’m reading the instructions, I’m thinking to myself, “Well, this is going to take some sewing zipper gymnastics.”
And then an audible “Oh shit.”
I had made a mistake when sewing the bodice sides together. My mistake is a direct result of failing to follow the pattern instructions. Whoops. I guess during Open Sew I was too busy eating food and gossiping and just skipped right over the part telling me to leave an opening on the left bodice side. I have now learned my lesson! So, more unsewing before zipper-ing.
Invisible zipper. I’ve put them in before. They are not difficult. Well, let me be clear. Invisible zippers are not hard when you install them before stitching up the seam. This was not the case. Yeah, zipper gymnastics. And with three attempts at installing, I didn’t make it to the medal round.
My seam ripper really should not see so much action.
I’m sure that the late night, its-a-Monday tiredness contributed to my inattention and resulting mistakes. But this dress is just about finished. What’s left? Buttonholes. Buttons. Hem.
