Block Swap!

October 19, 2011

I love my flickr swaps.

And online quilting bees look like a ton of fun.  I did a flickr search for quilting bees and ended up here and this discussion thread.  {you see where this is going right? how flickr just sucks you in and a click click here and then another few clicks….. and all of a sudden you’re reading your camera manual and flash manual and successfully triggering the flash remotely off camera and have now decided to buy some studio lighting kits to expand your photog hobby… whoo boy, that’s another post for another day.}

So. I found my self all excited to join the October round of the NuBees {Block} swap.  The concept of this bee is perfect for me right now.  I only have to commit to one month, making only 5 blocks.  Totally newbie friendly.  Yay!

I’m in Hive #2 and the girls are fun, sharing bright and colorful inspiration mosaics.  I pulled fabric the other night from my scrap pile and my box o’ prints and solids.  The block design I’m going with for all of them is the spider web block. I found this tutorial and this one too and got to work.

I was able to finish up one block for Karen.

 WIP:: NuBees {Block} Swap

It went quickly once I finished one piece of the block.  My method was pretty disorganized – grabbing scraps from the pile, sewing, then cutting the strip to desired width.  With the next blocks, I’m going to actually cut the strips to size and then sew.  I hope that I can get them finished up quickly and can send out by this weekend.

Stay tuned!

::The Name::

Five Baht Elephant. My mother is from Thailand, where elephants are royal animals. Growing up Mom would tell us to save our pennies, "in case a man came to our door selling elephants." At the time we thought it was the most absurd thing ever. Now I realize it was the Thai version of saving for a rainy day. Lets hope that we can buy an elephant for only five baht!
