Foxy Fox!

March 18, 2012

Yay me!  I am no longer skeerd. I learned to paper-piece!

Last week, at Fancy Tiger, Amy Gibson (familiar with the Craftsy Block of the Monthy class? She’s the teacher. I didn’t know until mid way through the class, discussing blocks and blogs and quilt a longs she’s all “oh yeah, I teach that class” and I’m all “you’re, like, famous!” and she blushed. She’s cute. And a fantastic teacher) helped us through the steps to put together this little guy.

So. Cute.  As are all the other patterns over at Artisania.

I made a few mistakes.  Like trimming off an entire piece instead of just the seam allowance.  And my block doesn’t lay very flat.  The bias seams and my sloppy pressing are to blame, I’m sure.  Amy did suggest using starch on the pieces to keep them straight.  I’ll definitely use that next time.

I’m really excited about this new technique.  I already recognize that this is not a task to do tired.  (See mis-trimming above.)

Right now, the fox is missing his eyes.  Once I get that taken care of, I’ll square this up and make something.  Possibilities include: knitting project bag, embroidery project bag, mug rug.

Stay tuned.

    Cute! I love this fox pattern more and more every time I see it. I may just have to dive into paper piecing soon just so I have one of my own.

::The Name::

Five Baht Elephant. My mother is from Thailand, where elephants are royal animals. Growing up Mom would tell us to save our pennies, "in case a man came to our door selling elephants." At the time we thought it was the most absurd thing ever. Now I realize it was the Thai version of saving for a rainy day. Lets hope that we can buy an elephant for only five baht!
