Good! (and Bad)

March 27, 2012

I’ll go ahead and begin with the good stuff:

*Hunger Games: We totally nerded out on this one; my friend Megan and I have been looking forward to seeing this movie for months.  And it did not disappoint!  I’m still fired up.  Began re-reading the second book!

*Bike Ride:  Saturday was a beautiful day. I love Colorado, especially in the Spring.  Mr Garmin ran out of battery while riding, but I think I went for 15 miles.  Nice and easy because of the long run I had planned for Sunday.  Saw a lot of people out on the bike path.

*10 Mile Run:  This was the fastest 10 miler I’ve done in years (1:38).  I was on track for a really good time until I hit mile 8.  Mile 8 took me over 12 minutes to complete because I stopped to walk.  I’m not sure if it was a mental thing, whether I need to HTFU (harden the f*** up), or if I just ran out of gas.  I, uh, did not eat or drink smartly the day before – beer margarita and raw oysters the night prior.  oops!

*Mad Men is back!

*…and my NCAA bracket is beating JJ’s. Ha!

*Quilt Bee Blocks:  I finished the Dutchman’s Block for Sabrina and got to work on the ‘x’ block for Linda.  I had never made either of these blocks before.  Sabrina sent out the fabrics pre-cut for the flying geese, and she said she wasn’t too concerned with the points not being ‘pointy’.  Linda put together a tutorial on her block and included it (with color photos!) with her fabric.  I’m going to leave it to her to square up since I don’t have a 9.5″ square ruler and I don’t want to mess it up!

…and now the bad stuff:

*Coffee Date Dress:  UGH.  I totally jacked this up.  Like really messed it up.  I’m not even sure how to salvage it.  To accommodate my shape, I shortened the front darts.  I also lengthened the bodice by 3″, but didn’t account for the curve at the waist to meet the hips.  The front and back skirt pieces were considerably wider than the bodice front and back.  So, there is about a 2″ hole on either side of the waist.  My sister suggested adding a panel of sorts and that should be fine.  I’ll take care of that later.  The frustration… UGH.  I put it away.

    Fantastic time on your running 12 mins at mile 8 is still awesome.

    The blocks look really good, I’m thinking about trying a wonky star block.

    I have never even thought about making clothes it looks far to complicated to me. putting it away for a few days is probably the best thing to do, if you come back to it with fresh eyes I’m sure you’ll have a eureka moment.

::The Name::

Five Baht Elephant. My mother is from Thailand, where elephants are royal animals. Growing up Mom would tell us to save our pennies, "in case a man came to our door selling elephants." At the time we thought it was the most absurd thing ever. Now I realize it was the Thai version of saving for a rainy day. Lets hope that we can buy an elephant for only five baht!
