October Goals

October 3, 2012

Back at it. Goal setting. I love the beginning of a month. I feel all invincible and incredible, thinking that I can accomplish anything I want!  Though it has, in recent memory, been somewhat of an exercise in expectation management.  A lesson, let’s call it, in realistic goal setting.

Here’s what I want to do in October:

*p90x:: I started another round on September 24th, and I’m shooting for at least a B for October.  I’ve decided to grade myself this month by assigning point values to each of my subordinate p90x goals and then seeing where I end up this month.  Here’s the point breakdown:

*1 point for the daily workout
*1 point for meeting that day’s nutrition goal
*1 point for posting in the challenge thread

I don’t follow p90x as written. I do all the strength DVDs, but I skip the plyoX, kenpoX and yogaX.  For cardio on the non-strength days I’ll either run, bike or swim. Lately though its been running.  And I live close to a great yoga studio with an amazing instructor, so I don’t feel the need to do the YogaX DVD. I figure that there are 93 possible points in October, and to earn a B I’ll need to hit at least 75 points.

* run 10% more mileage in October than in September.

*Make a bed side organizer and a lap quilt for a friend.

*Take a photo a day.

*Blog consistently. I’m up for any ideas for posts. Is there anything you’d like to see or read more about?  Let me know.

*Get caught up with our 2012 photobook.

*Write more. I downloaded Ali Edwards’s Storyology course and hope to put it to use.  I’d like to have more story to go along with my photos (see above!)

    You have set some really fun goals for yourself, way to go!

::The Name::

Five Baht Elephant. My mother is from Thailand, where elephants are royal animals. Growing up Mom would tell us to save our pennies, "in case a man came to our door selling elephants." At the time we thought it was the most absurd thing ever. Now I realize it was the Thai version of saving for a rainy day. Lets hope that we can buy an elephant for only five baht!
