This Pink Tape Looks Cool

October 14, 2013

Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset

Except I’m not wearing it only for its looks. This tape has absolutely helped my foot heal. And I’m kicking myself for not doing this sooner. You know, like a few months ago.

After complaining for weeks about the pain in my feet due to plantar fasciitis, a collegue suggested taping my arches. A google search and a few You Tube videos later, I ran (ha ha! Ran! Like that?) to my local running store in search of KT Tape. I found some, and 3 seconds after I put it on, I experienced instant relief. Instant.

I wear this tape pretty much all the time now. It gives my arch additional support. I believe it promotes blood flow to the area, thus aiding in healing and decreasing pain. And the tape sticks for a long time.

I’ve been able to walk pain free for the past few weeks because of this tape. I’ve also broken the 3 mile running wall. Last week, I ran 4 miles with some coworkers. Over the weekend I ran 4.5 miles – including a lap around Cheesman Park – a park I haven’t run in 6 months because of injury.

I’m shooting for a 10k on November 16th. I’ll add 0.5 mile to my ‘long run’ on the weekends, and add maybe 10-15 minutes to my weekday runs. That should put me in 10k range in 4 weeks without increasing too much too soon – which I’m convinced is what landed me in this situation in the first place. I’ve recruited JJ to run with me and I’m excited. And even more exciting, the girls and I have been discussing another destination race for 2014. We’re thinking overseas for our next one.

I hope I don’t come back and report that I’ve hurt myself again.

::The Name::

Five Baht Elephant. My mother is from Thailand, where elephants are royal animals. Growing up Mom would tell us to save our pennies, "in case a man came to our door selling elephants." At the time we thought it was the most absurd thing ever. Now I realize it was the Thai version of saving for a rainy day. Lets hope that we can buy an elephant for only five baht!
