I recently took a new job (same company, same department, just different responsibilities) which puts me in Boulder a few times a week. The commute can range from 35 minutes to over an hour depending on which route I choose, traffic and accidents along the route and time of day. I’m always trying to make the most of my time. And sitting on the parking lot called US36 is not, in my opinion, a good use of my time. Lately, I’ve been packing my work clothes and leaving the house around 5 am to avoid the rush hour traffic and get in a run before the day begins.

This was one of those up-early-to-run-at-work mornings. I hardly run with my phone, but for some reason my Garmin wouldn’t power on past the welcome screen. Because I like to know how far and long I do run, I grabbed my phone and turned on a gps tracker app to measure my run. And I’m glad I had my phone with me. When I started it was dark, but the sun quickly came up and as I was running around the lake, I saw this:

Sunrise

Not a bad way to start the day.

    Love it! We saw a fox on our run today, but I wasn’t quick enough with getting my phone out of my armband to snap a picture.

    Which gps app do you use on your phone?

      Thanks! I use the MotionX GPS app. Its not fitness specific but I can upload the .gpx files into the program I use to track my training.

::The Name::

Five Baht Elephant. My mother is from Thailand, where elephants are royal animals. Growing up Mom would tell us to save our pennies, "in case a man came to our door selling elephants." At the time we thought it was the most absurd thing ever. Now I realize it was the Thai version of saving for a rainy day. Lets hope that we can buy an elephant for only five baht!
