It’s hard to get any quilting or sewing done with this little guy in the way!
Truthfully, I really only had the energy to quilt three blocks of my sister’s quilt tonight. Piecing the quilt back and then putting together the quilt sandwich sucked away most of my crafty energy!
Want another honest confession? The amount of negative space in this quilt scares the shit out of me. I’m afraid that my quilting on these areas will look awful. There’s no block design or seams to hide my crap quilting.
I decided to try a design by Leah Day called Modern Art and practiced for a bit on scrap fabric and batting. It’s a pretty easy design that fills in the space quickly. I plan to fill in the plain blocks with this pattern. I’ve got some ideas for the 9-patch blocks, but I haven’t decided how I’m going to quilt those yet.
This is a first for me. I’ve never really put much thought into the quilting part of making a quilt. I usually stick with some kind of meandering or simple, all-over design. And I did that because I don’t really enjoy the quilting. Or it’s because I’m usually just so ready for the project to be complete that I’ll do what’s easiest to get it finished.
Not this time. I’m not in a hurry to finish this project (actually, I really should work on finishing Christmas gifts, if I’m being even more honest) so I figured I can take the time to try something new.
