Venus de Miles

September 3, 2010

Sunday Sunday Sunday!

So…. I got a wild hair and at the very last minute registered for the Venus de Miles Bike Ride.  To continue the wild-ness, I opted for the 67-mile route which takes us riders up up up a twisty, wind-y road to Jamestown.

You all know we live in Colorado.
You can imagine how twisty and wind-y and the up up up part.

Lemme just tell you that it took me, according to my gps/heartratemontior/computer/watch monstrosity, 57 minutes to go up 8.5 miles and a mere 21 minutes to go down.

Yeah that sucked.

ANYWAY.

It was a women-only bike ride, wait, I take that back.  Men could ride also, but they had to be in drag.  Hill-air-ee-us.  Dudes in fishnets, skirts, wigs, some guy in a dress… it was fun.

Sunday Bike Ride

April 18, 2010

20100418-april1

My shadow shot.

A nice 30ish mile bicycle ride.

Lessons Learned:

  • Cherry Creek North Trail from E470 does not, in fact, make it all the way to Cherry Creek Reservoir
  • There is a trailhead closer to our house than driving to Lincoln Ave.

::The Name::

Five Baht Elephant. My mother is from Thailand, where elephants are royal animals. Growing up Mom would tell us to save our pennies, "in case a man came to our door selling elephants." At the time we thought it was the most absurd thing ever. Now I realize it was the Thai version of saving for a rainy day. Lets hope that we can buy an elephant for only five baht!
