Running
Merrell Barefoot Pace Gloves – truly barefoot shoes. There is no cushioning in these. I used to run in these exclusively until I bought the Bare Access at the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler Expo.
Merrel Barefoot Bare Access – These provides more cushion that the pace gloves. I use these mainly for road running.
Merrell Tempo Glove – These feel the same as the pace gloves, but have a neoprene cover. I like that they keep my feet warm during cold winter runs.
YakTraks – I slipped on ice and broke my kankle while running a mere 6 weeks after having Miles. I broke 3 bones and had surgery to put 2 plates and a total of 6 pins/screws into my ankle. I was on crutches with a newborn. It was awful. I will not do that again. I will wear the YakTraks if there is even a hint of snow or ice on the road.
**Please note that it took me months to transition from Adidas Trail Response shoes to the Merrell barefoot shoes. After running 15+ years in heavy, highly cushioned, supportive shoes going minimalist was tough on my feet and calves. I’m 95% sure that my stress fracture is a result from not transitioning correctly. Do not make the same mistake I did!
CrossFit
I started CrossFit in August 2015 because I was bored with running, and I wanted to incorporate more strength training into my workouts. I had been resisting CrossFit for YEARS, but so many of my friends urged me to try it. When my good friend Heather told me that she thought I would really like it, I gave it a try. She was right, as she often is. I love it. As long as I show up at CrossFit Park Hill, I’m good. I get an amazing workout in an hour and I don’t have to think about it. I just show up and do my best.
Cycling
Trek 5200 – my second road bike; bought in 2006. I’m not even sure that model is still around. My bike has a full complement of Shimano Ultegra components, including pedals. Oh, and I do have a triple chainring. Which helps while climbing those mountain passes!
